-don't* :p

It can't be that heavy -- pingback/trackback really only require a single HTTP request
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:45:49 -0800 2007
depends on how many profiles you're pinging with "one content"
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:47:46 -0800 2007
also, we could pingback citations. say you talk about me in a post or tag me in a photo or video
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:48:09 -0800 2007
Well, yes, that's how pingback is used now
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:48:43 -0800 2007
Yes, it depends on the number of profiles, but you can't get lighter than one request with two values

Sat Dec 22 14:48:47 -0800 2007
I mean when you're not linking to something I created, but actualy to me.

Sat Dec 22 14:49:07 -0800 2007
I'm more of a trackback fan myself, but that's neither here nor there
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:49:13 -0800 2007
Ah, right
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:51:49 -0800 2007
so, what do you think? worth further exploration?
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:52:35 -0800 2007
Definately

Use what's already built and implemented where we can

Sat Dec 22 14:53:00 -0800 2007
I'm trackback/pingback agnostic by the way. I was under the impression Wordpress had gone the pingback way but now I'm in doubt.

Sat Dec 22 14:53:10 -0800 2007
Wordpress has both
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:53:19 -0800 2007
Right
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:53:36 -0800 2007
are they different in functionnality?
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:54:31 -0800 2007
Trackback is just nice because what URL you are sending data to is what says what you're tracking back to -- with pingback you pass that as a parameter
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:56:06 -0800 2007
hmmm. main difference in functionnality would be proxy compatibility then?
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:56:59 -0800 2007
Hmm, more like flexibility in implementation -- the receiving engine can be different for different pages if need be, etc
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:57:24 -0800 2007
Wondering if WordPress has nice hooks to get trackbacks/pingbacks to a plugin
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:57:39 -0800 2007
that's what I meant, you put it much better :) and pingback is more flexible then?
http://singpolyma.net/
Sat Dec 22 14:58:19 -0800 2007
I'd say trackback is more flexible -- but that's just been my experience, I'm sure they're mostly the same in the end
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:58:53 -0800 2007
ok. not very familiar with it
http://webcracy.org/
Sat Dec 22 14:59:08 -0800 2007
from what I've read, messing with Wordpress's trackback/pingback is pretty painful?
